A Lake-Inspired Kitchen Remodel in Madison
Some of the best Madison kitchen remodels don't start with a tile sample or a cabinet door, they start with a feeling. For this Madison homeowner, that feeling was Lake Michigan. She had collected photographs and stones from its shores over the years. When it came time to remodel her kitchen and bathroom, she wanted to build some of the details of the remodel around that feeling of being on the lake. Working closely with our design team, she crafted a vision where every material choice pointed back to that natural beauty found at the lake.
The kitchen was the heart of the project, and the Lake Michigan influence shows up throughout. The backsplash tile with soft greens, neutrals and earth tones carries the quality of stone and water. No two sections look exactly alike, which was intentional. New cherry cabinetry adds warmth, and light countertops keep the palette soft and cohesive.
The lighting plan was designed to lean into what the kitchen already had going for it — vaulted ceilings that flood the space with natural light and give it an openness that carries through to the rest of the main floor. A trio of pendants over the peninsula and two larger ceiling fixtures work with that height, and under-cabinet lighting adds a layer of warmth. The existing hardwood floors were preserved throughout, keeping continuity with the rest of the home.
